Eisteddfod 2023 with Sian Eleri

The Llŷn peninsula is this year’s home to one of the biggest festivals in Europe and celebrates the best of Welsh culture – a natural showcase for music, dance, visual arts, literature, original performances and much more.

BBC Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri heads to the village of Boduan near Pwllheli to bring all the highlights and stories from the National Eisteddfod of Wales and to discover how this most ancient of festivals is constantly evolving to remain a relevant cultural force.

It kicks off with a rousing opening show – a folk concerto headed by the talented quartet Pedair joined by the Eisteddfod folk choir.

Sian will be catching up with the makers of this year’s Crown and Chair – awarded to the main literary prize winners and they are pretty unique – the Chair was carved from a single stump of a fallen oak.

She’ll also bring a flavour of the diverse performances - from brass bands to classy pop acts, to classical and contemporary music. Sian will be catching up with N’famady Kouyate, voted best newcomer in Glastonbury as well as the group Welsh of the West End who became a viral sensation during the pandemic and have been playing to packed houses all around the World.

And Sian will also visit the Lle Celf – which is the place to go to see an extraordinary range of contemporary art, she’ll enjoy the work of the Gold Medal Winners in Fine Art, Contemporary Art, Craft and Design – as well as Architecture.
